Ministry

Worship

Easter Singing_edited.jpg

Growing up in the Presbyterian Church, I developed a deep appreciation for hymns, communal confession, communion, and baptism. In college and seminary, I learned to appreciate different styles and rhythms of worship. I am enthusiastic about integrating the old and the new and cultivating congregational involvement in worship planning and leadership. I seek opportunities to engage congregations in creative ways so that worship is truly participatory rather than a performance.

Mission

Volunteers at Food Bank

Between my time working at The Center, an independent study, and a focused year-long apprenticeship at Ormewood Church, I have become deeply passionate about mission. Knowing that church outreach and charity can often do harm, I am developing a curriculum to guide churches through a re-visioning of their mission programs to be better community partners and neighbors. With a focus on the gifts of communities in addition to their needs, my approach to mission centers on the experiences of the people we aim to help by recognizing them as experts in their own context.

Teaching

When I worked at The Center in Baltimore, I learned that I love to teach! Our curriculum involved small group discussion, interactive exercises, and hands-on learning opportunities. One of my favorite teaching experiences was teaching a 6th-grade Baptism Class, where I taught a curriculum I co-developed with the Senior Pastor. This curriculum focuses on biblical, theological, and historical foundations in a way that is engaging and accessible to youth. In all my teaching - with both youth and adults - I strive to create a learning environment where questions are welcome and collaboration is encouraged.

Family Ministry

Family ministry is dear to my heart. Kids' & teens' passion and desire for exploration of the world around them remind me of the importance of intergenerational ministry and relationships. I have experience engaging young people in a life of faith through leadership opportunities, community service, biblical study, and time in fellowship. I endeavor to minister to families with authenticity and vulnerability, recognizing that young people often experience God best when they are allowed to let down their guard and be themselves.
